Taking a Look at My Craft Space

Apartment living with a ten-month-old means keeping everything organized is a must. This past month, I decided to set myself up a little corner for my crafting instead of occupying the dining room table.

This is Momma's corner.

As you can see, it's not the most organized at the moment, but I love having an area to work on my projects.

Looking at my space:

I have my two DIY Dollar Tree Vinyl racks that I use to store my vinyl on the wall. Underneath my racks, I use small command hooks to hold my Cricut Mats. I was able to find my hooks in the clearance section of my local Walmart. If you don't go through your Walmart's clearance section, you should definitely start!

The shelf to the left, I actually lucked out and found at Goodwill; however, it is originally from Jysk. I have linked it here for anyone who is interested! It is a great shelf. The shelves are deep and sturdy. As you can see, I use it to store all of my glitter, styrofoam cups, ribbon, etc. I make-shifted my ribbon holder from Dollar tree items, and I will be posting a short DIY post on that in the next few days.

Under my shelf, I just have some basic wire desk accessories. I have a paper storage basket that holds my folders with my embroidery patterns, vinyl scraps, sewing patterns, etc. Also, I have a wire pencil holder that has five small storage sections. Because the storage basket is metal, I was also able to attach some locker pencil holders that I bought from Dollar Tree. When I bought the holders, they did have silicone along the lip and a piece of paper taped inside (as a design), but I liked the clear look more. To get this look, I simply pulled the paper out and removed the lip. I use these to store my extra Cricut Blades, binder clips (which I'm all out right now), and small accessories like pencil sharpeners and seam rippers.

For my working surface, it's actually just a 4-foot collapsable table. I had a very small space to work with, and I did a lot of research before picking my table. This option gave me the most surface area (depth and length) and really was the best option. Also, at the time, the table was on sale at Canadian Tire so it was an even easier decision. To protect my table, I use a desk pad from Ikea on top of a Dollar Tree table cloth. Nothing extravagant, but it gets the job done!

The lovely snowman tray in front of my Cricut Maker is from A Buck or Two. It is gigantic and is the perfect workspace for my glitter crafts. I'm sure you can find trays like this at any dollar store, I just recommend getting one with a higher edge so that it can better contain your glitter. I use it when I am filling tumblers and/or ornaments. Once I'm done, I just bring the tray over to the kitchen sink and rinse off the glitter. It also makes the perfect drying rack for any tools that also have to be washed or rinsed out.

For my Cricut Design Space and blog work, I use my Surface Pro 4. I love having something light and portable because it's easy to move and still fits on my table when I pull my Cricut Maker away from the wall during use.

Under my table, I have my Rubbermaid Three Drawer Storage and printer.

Luckily, I am only 5"2', so the drawer unit does not bother me. I have about a 5" clearance from the front of the drawer unit to the edge of my table, so obviously if you are a bit taller it may not work for you. Having this drawer unit underneath allows me to store my other craft supplies and fabrics. On top of the drawers, I have my vinyl piece stash and my holographic vinyl that I ordered from Teckwrap. It came in a flat cardboard envelope, so it fits perfectly on top, and I just pull it out when I want to work with it. My printer is just sitting on top of a storage cube. I don't use it much for crafting right now, other than printing off embroidery designs or sewing patterns. In the future, I hope to get a good compact color printer and attempt some stickers with my Cricut.

I think that about covers it... I hope this gives you some ideas on how you can optimize your crafting area and, of course, save some money!

Happy Crafting!
